COMMON PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

Q:  The text in my browser windows is too large or too small.  How do I correct it?
A:  In your Internet Explorer toolbar at the top left of your screen, click on "View.'  In the drop down box, click on "text size."  The next drop down box will give you options for text size.  The WVPCA site is optimized for the text size "medium."

Q:  My screen looks really weird.  Text boxes are jumbled and overlapping and/or I can't see some content.  What is the problem?
A:  First, TRY MAXIMIZING THE WINDOW in which your browser has opened the website by clicking on the box in the top right of the window (between the _ and the X)  Make sure you maximise the window in which you have opened the site and not the search engine results page or the browser home page that is probably still open behind the website window.

Q:  I tried maximizing the window, but it didn't help.  I still see jumbled text boxes and garbled content.
A:  If maximizing the website browser window fails to cure the problem, you may need to ADJUST YOUR SCREEN RESOLUTION to properly view the site.  The WVPCA site, like most new websites, is otpimized to be viewed at a screen resolution of  1024 X 768 pixels.  Search the
Windows Home Page or click the link below for instructions on changing the screen resolution.

Q:  I've tried maximizing the window and adjusting the screen resolution but I'm still having problems.  What else can I try?
A:  This site is optimized for Internet Exlporer 5+.  If you are using Netscape or a version of Internet Explorer older than IE 5, you probably need to upgrade your browser.  If you don't you'll almost certainly have difficulty viewing other sites as well.

Q:  Sometimes, I can't open files or documents, particularly those with a file extension of ".pdf"
A:  You probably need to install a new version of adobe acrobat reader.  All adobe acrobat files require acrobat reader to open.  Since acrobat files are one of the most popular and common means of posting documents on the web, it is a good idea to keep your version up-to-date.  Get the newest version by clicking the icon below.

Q:  I am getting an error message telling me that scripts are being blocked and that i need to debug when i try to click on certain links, particularly the set home page link.  What do I do now?
A:  There could be several different problems.  First, try clicking on the TOOLS tab at the top of your browser window.  Then, select INTERNET OPTIONS.  Scroll down to the section titled MICROSOFT VM and make sure all the boxes in that secton are checked.  This enables your browser to view dynamic javascript content.  You will have to restart your computer for any changes to take effect.

If that fails to resolve the problem, you most likely have a script blocker engaged in your virus protection software.  To disable script blocking in Norton Antivirus, click on the start menu, and choose Norton Antivirus.  When the anitivirus software opens, click options and then click script blocking.  Uncheck the box titled ENABLE SCRIPT BLOCKING.  This will allow your browser to view dynamic javascript without being interrupted by your viurs protection software.  One warning, this option reduces your level of security and may result in problems with malicious scripts.
