(click above for more info)
BDLS (Basic Disaster Life Support) will begin in May 2008, ADLS (Advanced Disaster Life Support) will begin in August 2008. These courses are targeted to multiple disciplines including EMS personnel, hazardous materials personnel, public health personnel and health care providers. The goal is to teach these disciplines to simultaneously develop a commonality of approach and language in the health care community, improving the care and coordination of response in the event of disasters and public health emergencies.
This training is sponsored by the WV Hospital Association, WVDHHR/Threat Preparedness, Monroe Health Center, Greenbrier Valley Medical Reserve Corps and the Emergency Medicine Club of the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine.

On April 11, 2008 there was an Emergency Preparedness & Clinical Committee Learning Call offered by the Community Health Care Association of New York State, a national leader in threat preparedness. WVPCA Prep for Threat
The membership community health centers (34 entities) of the WVPCA represent over 150 clinical sites throughout the state of West Virginia. They serve a vital purpose in this State, providing care to 340,000 patients, 32% of which are uninsured. Our member health centers provide care to 1 out of every 5 West Virginians. Our member centers also provide their patients with access to 340B pharmacies throughout the state, making medications more affordable for many. It is with these facts in mind that the WVPCA is working to effectively coordinate (with State and Federal mandates) a "Prep For Threat" program with our health centers.
Please see the handouts from the slideshow presented to our membership regarding this initiative. The slideshow, Prep For Threats (PFT) Working Collaboratively Makes Sense can be found by clicking HERE.
Community Health Center Emergency/Threat Prep Skills Assessment: This survey will provide us with a baseline of information for the training and skills we have within our health centers to respond to emergency/disaster situations - to plan trainings and support for health centers.
